RANCHER TO RANCHER SOUTHWEST IS LAUNCHING
Led by ranchers, for ranchers.
ranchers in the southwest are facing a test of resilience
…and the people leading the way are ranchers themselves. Ranchers in this region have long known practices to heal land, grow better forage, and raise better livestock. And through implementing these techniques, they are building stronger operations and better lives along the way. That knowledge comes from lifetimes and generations spent observing and stewarding the land, and from constantly refining what works for forage, soil, water, and ecosystem function. Rancher to Rancher Southwest exists to bring ranchers together on working land to see, firsthand, what's actually working and why.
Our kickoff is a day long, on the ground at Moon Horse Ranch. We will walk the land, do soil health and other demonstrations, share lunch and stories, swap lessons learned, spend time with old friends in the ranching community, and make some new ones too.
upcoming r2r sw events
This is the first of our Rancher to Rancher SW events - we will have 6 more in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado between now and April 2028, each a day long on a ranch in the region that is getting exciting results from traditional and innovative grazing and land management practices. We expect to expand throughout the Southwest as the initiative grows. Subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of the page and check our events page for upcoming R2R events.
Scientists, agency representatives, advocates, and others involved in land management are welcome to join us, but this is grassroots, peer-to-peer, rancher-driven learning, and the folks caring for the land every day will be leading the conversation.
Rancher to Rancher SW is a partnership between the Southwest Grassfed Livestock Alliance (SWGLA) and Alianza Agri-Cultura de Taos, with support from Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, Western Landowners Alliance, Quivira Coalition, Chama Peak Land Alliance, and the New Mexico Association of Conservation Districts. The program is funded by the #NoRegrets Initiative and works alongside the Soil Carbon Coalition's California Rancher to Rancher program.
